AltaMed Health Services Partners with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to Open First-Ever Medical Center Dedicated to Pediatric Care Near Downtown Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES -To expand much needed pediatric care to the Downtown Los Angeles community, AltaMed Health Services, the nation’s largest independent federally-qualified community health center, has opened its first-ever medical center dedicated to pediatric care in partnership with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group (CHLAMG). AltaMed and CHLA will celebrate the new AltaMed General Pediatrics and Dental Group – Westlake, 3rd Street with a grand opening ceremony on Friday, August 24, 10 a.m. at 2100 W. Third St., Suite 200 & 220, Los Angeles, 90057.
The new 30,000 square foot pediatric center, which houses 38 patient exam rooms and 12 dental chairs, has the capacity to treat a large volume of patients each day. Services offered at this location include general pediatrics, a complex care clinic, and dental services that will be co-staffed by pediatricians who provide award-winning care at CHLA and are members of the CHLA Medical Group. This new clinic represents an expansion to the existing two-decade partnership between AltaMed and CHLA.
“Infants, children and adolescents have special needs when it comes to their development and medical care,” said Cástulo de la Rocha, CEO and president of AltaMed Health Services. “From clinical expertise to medical instruments, many facilities aren’t fully prepared to care for children. Through our partnership with CHLA, we aim to improve access to world-class pediatric care for vulnerable children in this community.”
Through its partnership with CHLA and the CHLA Medical Group, AltaMed has been able to bring premier pediatric expertise to the care of children in its communities for more than a decade, resulting in hundreds of thousands of children receiving expert pediatric primary medical care. The AltaMed clinic on CHLA’s main campus alone has delivered care for approximately 600,000 pediatric patient visits over the past twelve years and now fields more than 90,000 patient visits each year—with care overseen by more than 150 physicians with dedicated pediatric expertise.
“We are proud to partner with AltaMed to expand access to pediatric care across Los Angeles County,” said CHLA President and Chief Executive Officer Paul S. Viviano. “This expansion of our institution’s partnership will embed CHLA’s physician expertise into the community near downtown, making world-class care more accessible and convenient for the region’s families.”
Last year, AltaMed expanded its pediatric care with a new health center in South Gate that is also co-staffed by CHLA physicians. This center also offers primary care and dental services to adults.
