Honor MLK's Memory by Volunteering with AltaMed

MLK Day

National holidays are about more than three-day weekends, but their true meaning often gets lost in translation. At AltaMed, we'd like to challenge you to kick off 2017 by celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day by volunteering with us at Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights.

This will be our 6th annual MLK Beautification Day, and we'll be there on January 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., cleaning up the high school's campus and gardens and working on a variety of renovation projects. We hope this National Day of Service positively reflects many of the values Martin Luther King Jr. taught by example, such as courage, truth, humility and compassion.

By making it a group effort, including both students and the community, AltaMed's goal is to create a safe and inspiring environment for learning. We also aim to empower Roosevelt's students to take ownership of their school and education, and show them the importance of volunteer work and community engagement.

If you'd like to take part, please email Melody Lai at MelLai@la.AltaMed.org for more information.
