Don’t Worry, There’s Still Time to Enroll in Covered California
AltaMed Is Here to Help

1-ACA

We know how overwhelming enrolling in a health plan can feel, which is why we at AltaMed have dedicated ourselves to simplifying the process for our community. There is a lot of information out there flooding the media, and we’d to separate fact from fiction to make enrollment as easy as possible.

With that in mind, here are the top five things we think you need to know about Obamacare/the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

1.) The deadline to enroll in a plan is January 31, 2017.

2.) Covered California, California’s insurance marketplace, is not going anywhere. We know that the election results have many worrying that the ACA will be coming to an end, but that's just not the case. Trust in the words of Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee, who in a recent LA Times article said, "Hundreds of health plans around the nation have signed contracts for terms of engagement for 2017. The idea that they would just pull the rug out from under 22 million people, to me, just doesn’t pass the smell test. We want Californians to take a deep breath, get the benefits the law provides."

3.) For those of you already enrolled in a plan through Covered California, there will be no major changes in terms of coverage. In fact, most will see a lower copay for primary care visits, and urgent care costs will now mirror these prices, which can save you up to $55 a visit. What's more, Silver, Gold and Platinum plan members could save thousands because they will have a flat copay for emergency room visits without having to satisfy a deductible.

4.) It's still important to take a look at the marketplace and shop around. You may be able to find a more affordable plan that offers similar coverage to what you already have. With three of California's 11 health care plans expanding coverage areas, it's worth your while to explore your options.

5.) Most importantly, if you don't do anything, you may lose coverage or be stuck with a higher premium for the year. Take the time to see what's available and then either re-enroll in your current plan or choose a new one. We're here to help at every step of this process, so call us at (888) 363-1293 to make an appointment with one of our certified bilingual enrollment counselors.
