Solutions & Treatments in Obesity Management & Prevention (STOMP)

STOMP is a twelve-month pediatric weight-control program designed to help families live a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and fitness education, motivational messages, medical care and personal consultations. Healthy weight and disease prevention come naturally. Discover a new healthier way of living!

Sessions are held by a registered dietitian and physical activity specialist. Some topics covered through this program include nutrition basics, reading food labels, food portion sizes, balancing meals, managing social eating and dining out, balancing physical activity with "screen" time, chronic disease prevention, stress management, fun fitness and traning, and much more.

Our goal is to impact our community’s health by using a comprehensive, provider-driven, and multidisciplinary approach to combat the rise of pediatric obesity. This program is currently operating at the following locations and we keep expanding to other AltaMed clinics:

Choose Health LA Kids: Promoting Healthy Eating and Active Living

In partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and First 5 LA, AltaMed has launched a new program to prevent and reduce childhood obesity in the communities of Bell, Commerce, East Los Angeles, Maywood, Montebello, Pico Rivera, and West Whittier-Los Nietos. The Choose Health LA Kids program will focus on promoting healthy eating and increased physical activity for children ages 0-5 and their families by offering:

  • A parent collaborative to advocate for healthier policies
  • Grocery store tours to educate parents about healthy food options
  • Food demonstrations to provide healthy cooking options
  • Parent education workshops to provide parenting and nutrition tips for children ages 0-5
  • Restaurant program outreach to inform owners about the Choose Health LA Restaurants program and encourage participation. The Choose Health LA Restaurants program will engage local restaurants to offer healthier options and smaller portions for children on their menus

For your convenience, there are Community Resource Guides with information about social, health, physical activity, and nutrition for families with children. Click here to review these resources in your community.

AltaMed's On the Move Healthy Kids Program

The On the Move Healthy Kids Program empowers elementary school-age children and their parents by providing tools and strategies to adopt in creating healthy lifestyle habits and maintaining a healthy weight. The program consists of 6 weekly sessions in which children and their parents learn how to make healthy nutritional choices, increase physical activity, eliminate sugary beverage consumption and reduce screen time (i.e., video games, TV, and computers).

Special thanks to Aetna and Macy's for their generous donation to the On the Move Healthy Kids program.
