Join Us in Ending Childhood Obesity

September is Childhood Obesity Month, but here at AltaMed, we think it’s important to fight this epidemic year round. . The numbers are staggering—one in three children ages 2-19 are overweight or obese, which can lead to serious health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes,  high cholesterol and high blood pressure, just to name a few...

For the past three years, our Choose Health LA Kids program has successfully made a difference in our communities by educating parents about nutrition through workshops, grocery store tours and healthy cooking demonstrations. They have also partnered with a corner store in a neighborhood in the city to create health-positive signage, reduce the consumption of junk food and promote healthy eating habits.

That’s not all. Our On the Move Healthy Kids Program has been effectively teaching children and parents. how to create healthier lifestyle habits. Over the course of six weekly sessions, families learn various. tools and strategies they can use in their everyday lives to increase physical activity and make more nutritious food and drink choices.

AltaMed takes childhood obesity seriously, which is why we will continue beyond September, to find opportunities and partners that can provide education and resources to help improve our community members’ lives. You can view additional AltaMed classes and services at: www.altamed.org/class

Remember, it’s never too late to help your family make positive and healthy lifestyle changes.
