President's Message
Welcome
to AltaMed! As a non-profit organization with a Federally Qualified
Health Center designation, we are uniquely able to service the
communities in which we live. It has long been our mission to
provide access to high quality, comprehensive health and human
services to the underserved population of Southern California,
in particular in “medically underserved areas” where
the ratio of doctors to population is about 1 to 10,000.
To live our mission, we understand that we must also understand
the lives of our patients. That's why more than half of the
directors on our Governing Board are people who use our services
and represent the populations we serve. While this governing
structure keeps us at the forefront of patient care, we face
an ongoing challenge in the pursuit of adequate funding.
Unfortunately, many of our sources for funding are shrinking
while the number of uninsured patients continues to grow. We
are rising to the challenge by seeking new solutions and developing
creative partnerships with other organizations that share our
values and mission.
Our commitment to families and our pledge to continue our tradition
of caring is part of our history and visible in our plans for
the future. Together with a remarkably dedicated team of health
and human services professionals, the AltaMed goal remains focused
on fostering innovation. We’re committed to performance
improvement and a continuum of care that closes the gap in medical,
dental and senior services, as well as in drug treatment and
HIV/AIDS programs, teen counseling and more. We welcome the
opportunity to care for you and your family, to assist you in
any way possible or to become your business partner in health.
I invite you to join with us at AltaMed in our commitment to
families. Join us in a relationship that benefits all those
involved.
